Authentically Me

Have you ever thought about the fact that everyone’s FaceBook is different? I mean, ofcourse our individual page is unique, but what about your newsfeed?

I think we sometimes forget that not everyone sees what we see. My husband and I have 398 mutual “friends” and still our news feeds are quite different. What about the ads? Even those are individual to you.

What I realized is that FaceBook is a reflection of who we are. For better or worse it is made up of our choices. Who we choose to be “friends” with, the things we “like”, what we comment on, share, and search.

Do you like what you see? A few years ago, I made a decision to be more authentically me. Now this is a continual process, but whether online or in person, what you see is what you get. Unless of course the picture makes me look fat, in which case it will never make my page! :)

Being consistent is not just a conscious decision to only post a certain message; it is making a decision to live it out. If I am doing something or if I am somewhere that I would not want posted online, I have to ask myself if I should be there.

My Pastor talks about taking a “friendventory”. Do you have the right people in your life? I have seen people comment about the negativity on their newsfeed; the reality is that you do not have to see that. You have chosen to be “friends” and you can choose to “unfriend” or “unfollow” them. We get to choose what we see, even the ads! It all comes from who we are and what we click.

I choose to be authentically me. I choose positive words and images. It matters what goes in our eyes and minds. Does this mean my newsfeed is not full of pictures of Caitlyn Jenner or the hot topic of the day? Of course not, we all have an opinion and Facebook is a great forum. What I am really saying is, if social media is a mirror, do I like what I see?

Living authentically is being in alignment to our values. It is being who God uniquely made you to be. Am I who I say I am?

When we are living out of alignment to our values, we can feel frustrated and overwhelmed. A great first step is to clarify what your values are and then you can begin to make choices that help you live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

God made you uniquely you. I would love to share with you more about living the life that God intended for you. Join me here.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14
