Reality > Fiction

This past week my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They met in high school and married just before my mom's 18th birthday. Mom wore a fabulous white wedding dress looking very Jackie O. Their marriage has not been without its challenges, but it is an amazing sign of love, strength, and perseverance.

As a little girl growing up, I would read fiction books, watch movies, and dream of the day that I would wear a big white dress and marry the man of my dreams. I do not think I am alone in this.

When I read these stories and watch romantic chick flicks there are parts they leave out, as in, relationships can be difficult. Sometimes the most romantic things may not be flowers, it might be being encouraged to be all that God made you to be, praying for you, or just doing the laundry. My husband had done all three today by noon! #Blessed

Richard and I will celebrate our 3-year anniversary in September. I sometimes wish that we had met sooner so that we could have 50 years together. What I have learned is that not only can God restore and redeem your life; He can multiply your time. Do not worry my single friends, time is nothing to God.

Richard and I dated for 4 years and dated Gods way. (No sex) You do not see that in many movies and books. Ours is not a love story of lots of chocolates and flowers, it is about a man that put in the time and effort to get to know the real me. He spent hours listening, spending time with me, trying to discern if we were suppose to be together. I tend to have a lot to say, so this was no easy task for him.

There is so much to be said about really feeling heard and known. It makes you feel loved, honored, and cherished in a way that brief sexual pleasure cannot.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoy romance and I love date night, but my real life love story is greater than fiction, with its challenges and all. This morning I was reading the Bible in Ezekiel and it says that God used Ezekiel’s life and his story to serve as a signpost to point others to God. That is mine and Richards prayer, that God would use our story as a signpost to inspire, encourage, and to point you to Him. That you would see what is possible in your life when you place your faith and hope in God.

"...So that you will be a sign to them and they will know that I am Lord" Ezekiel 24:27
