"Rest in Him"
Ahhhh, is there anything better than spooning? I tell my husband all the time that my favorite part of the day is when he lies down beside me and puts his arms around me. I literally exhale. No matter what my day has been like, that moment brings me peace.
Almost ten years ago, I went through a divorce and one of the things I was doing was looking for a new church home. One Sunday after a message, the pastor said, “If anyone is in need of prayer, you can come down front and we will pray with you.” I did not hesitate. I went to the front of the worship center and found myself in front of one of their younger pastors. I do not remember everything he prayed, but I remember one thing. He said, “I pray that one day you will find someone that you can ‘rest in’.” That sounded so good to me and like nothing I had ever had before. There was just one problem I was alone. This was during a time of my life that was full of anxiety; all I wanted was peace and rest.
One day I was attending a women’s bible study and I read the words, “Rest in Jesus.” My first thought was that He physically cannot hold me, but I began to really lean into Gods word. I soon discovered that when we allow Him, God really can give you that peace beyond understanding. All of my problems did not go away, but I was able to “rest in” Gods promises and know that I was not alone.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Mathew 11:28
I am grateful today that I now have an amazing husband that, just as the pastor prayed, is someone that I can truly “rest in”. I also take comfort in the fact that Jesus is that one that meets all of my needs.
I pray that each of you will take time in your day to turn to Jesus and allow Him to comfort you and give you rest. Allow Him to renew you for what is next in your life.
