#ConfidentlyBeautiful
Last night as I was flipping through the channels and I happened to catch the end of the Miss USA Pageant. They were on the interview questions and asked the ladies what being “Confidently Beautiful” means to them. Obviously the final three contestants were outwardly beautiful, but the answers they gave had little to do with their appearance. They talked about embracing our flaws, being happy with who you are, earning respect, and being powerful. Scripture tells us that we are “Wonderfully made”. God did not make a mistake, He made you on purpose.
In the movie Me Before You, it is a story of a rich handsome man and his cute and quirky caregiver. I loved this story so much! Will was a man that loved adventure and tall blondes. Lou describes herself as one of the “invisibles.” She never thought someone like Will would notice her. Had it not been for his accident that changed everything, he probably would not have. He tells her “When I look at you I see potential.” He sees something in her she never saw in herself and he encourages her to be herself and to live life to the fullest. There is something about fully owning who you are that makes you beautiful. Lou says, “I don’t think anyone will call me beautiful, I don’t have that graceful thing.” God did not see only one type of person as beautiful. He made each of us unique and beautiful in our own way. Being confidently beautiful means letting your inner beauty shine.
In my life I was always very careful to guard my heart by not trying to date men that were too good looking. This is stupid I know, but it seemed logical at the time. Instead of trusting God and allowing Him to choose, I was trying to control my circumstances so I would not get hurt. In case you do not know, it doesn’t work when we are “in control.” I was so busy trying to be what I thought everyone else wanted me to be, I didn’t even know who I was. How could anyone else know the real me?
When I met Richard he was incredibly handsome! On our first date he was talking and I am not sure what he was said, because I was just thinking “I hope he ask me out again.” I have always loved that what he sees in me is “potential.” Richard is my biggest supporter and encourages me to be me and to follow my dreams. He will say “Go get’em Tiger!” His belief in me pushes me to be what God made me to be, Confidently Beautiful.
It is in the moments where we get outside of ourselves and do things we have never done, that make us come alive. It is in the fullness of life that we see true beauty. I am guilty of always either cutting my hair off, growing it out, or turning it red. The struggle is real. But it is not about our outward appearance, it is embracing your authentic self.
I want to encourage you with the words that Will says to Lou in the movie. “Push yourself, don’t settle. Just live life well, Just live.” "You only get one life, it is actually your duty to live it to the fullest."
