The Great Adventure

It is a bittersweet day today; it looks like it is time to trade in my Volkswagen Bug Convertible. It was a fun ride. I believe I have officially driven all the fun out of it. A couple of lights are on on the dash, the top no longer goes down, and I am now driving on a spare tire. The biggest question is though, what can replace a legend?

Top of the list, I have been watching for a year for the return of The Bronco! Talk about a legend, it takes me back to the 80’s! The memories might include tall bangs and Duran Duran, but that is another story. Unfortunately, a year later and The Bronco is still illusive.

My mom has decided that instead of waiting until she is gone in order for my sister and I to get money, she would like to buy us both a car now. We are both excited at the idea of getting to do something fun with our mom now and extremely grateful! My sister was super decisive and is now driving a beautiful Nissan Rogue! I on the other hand am still hobbling on the spare tire combing the internet.

My sons have suggested that I drive a Subaru, but here’s the thing, have you seen the ads? Subaru drivers are adventurous! They are climbing, camping, and hiking. I would not call myself an adventurer, if you are reading this, I am sure you are not surprised. I wear heals, not hiking boots. If I am out in the heat, I need sand and water to be involved, and possibly a drink in a coconut.

This morning the word adventure was reframed for me in my quite time. Isn’t my journey with God an adventure? I mean, it takes a lot of courage to live a life of faith. I looked up adventure and it said, “daring and exciting activity, calling for enterprise and enthusiasm.” Yep, that is what my life feels like!

When you make a decision to follow Christ, He will challenge your beliefs, ask you to go to new places, and try new things. The good news is that you do not go alone, you are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be all that God made you to be. That is the greatest adventure!

Who knows, maybe I am adventurous enough for a Subaru! Whatever the car, I know where I am going. To wherever God is leading me.
